Is Strategy Necessary in the Modern Era?

Strategy is no longer about long-term, linear plans. That’s the classical perspective of strategy and makes up but 20% of the full strategy spectrum. In today’s world, firms must engage the full spectrum of strategy with the right situational emphasis. 

Artificial intelligence is here to stay irrespective to the degree of regulations that will soon transpire. Automation, Big Data, machine learning, and quantum computing each have an immediate effect business both big and not as big businesses.  

 

Strategy was once the process of creating a long-term strategic approach to maintain or increase competitive advantage. This perspective was needed for large-scale firms whose business was capital intensive. Think Exxon or Boeing. Size was the competitive advantage and the bigger the firm the easier it was to create and maintain competitive advantage at scale. This is no longer the case.

In the modern era, strategy isn’t first about a long-term strategic “approach” to business. Strategy is first and foremost about a strategic perspective that influences the creation of unconstrained strategic objectives. These objectives are agile in both approach and execution. This is radically different from what Boston Consulting Group accurately called the “Classical” definition of strategy that most are familiar with.

Marcus brings a unique academic, experiential and educational background to Benjamin Strategy. He managed his first multi-million dollar P&L at age 21, being slated for Executive leadership within five years. Marcus continued his career as a banker, and then, investment advisor where he managed a multi-million-dollar portfolio of insurance and financial products for entrepreneurs and executives.

fIn 2008, he started Benjamin Strategy Group to provide management consulting to mid and large cap companies. Marcus possesses a Bachelors in Business, Executive MBA and global certifications in Emotional Intelligence, Executive Presence & Design Strategy. Over the years, the company has grown with Marcus as he added divisions focused upon Business Transformation, DEI and Mergers & Acquisitions.
